November Tekken Tag 2 Update: More Items, More Fight Money, Mini-Games!

TTT2′s Customization gets much-needed buffs this month.

An intriguing post just appeared on InaTekken with a bit more detail on the upcoming Tekken Tag Tournament 2 Update this coming Wednesday, November 2. Apparently part of an ‘Autumn Campaign’ (Nov. 2 to 16), the updates will add more items and customizations for the characters, triple the Fight Money earned in VS Player matches and also introduce new online ‘Mini-games’ (for Tekken.net) where players can earn items not obtainable anywhere else. The interesting bit here is that the new items are being touted as ‘stimulating’. Well, let’s see what you’ve got then.

Word is that items may be continually added starting November 2 onwards, even beyond the Autumn Campaign period, while the triple fight money bonus for PVP play will limited to within Nov. 2-16. New players joining Tekken.net will apparently also get a 500,000 gold bonus.

Hoping that we indeed see ‘stimulating’ outfits and the return of missing options/areas of customization this time. So far the sentiment of players and fans with TTT2′s customization has been mixed but generally it’s agreed that it all seems so unpolished and incomplete. We’re all waiting in anticipation for that point where Harada’s early promises of ‘many, many costumes’ comes true. Granted, there’s still stuff like Hair Customization, Usable Items and others that aren’t in yet, so there’s still a ways to go before this all finishes. That’s part of the reason why the console versions are placed so far after the arcade release- that’s when everything’s done and complete. More as we get it then.

A peek at some beautiful, sinister and beautifully sinister art-to-final renders.

Bethesda Softworks just released this wonderful trailer showing off some of the concept artworks for Elder Scrolls V Skyrim and how they eventually translate in-game. What can I say that hasn’t already been said? The music alone (which I hope is part of the game’s soundtrack) is worth seeing this spot for. Oh, and aside from the majestic locales, there’s a peek at several intriguing characters- namely a look at the Dark Brotherhood (Ninja, Ninja!) and what appears to be a Robot you may be facing somewhere in this glorious fantasy world. The gateway to Skyrim opens on November 11, 2011.

Asuka in Streetfighter X Tekken? REALLY??? (Duh…)

Ono gives fans The Boot.

This just in- Asuka Kazama will be appearing in Streetfighter X Tekken!!!

Heheh. Well, we’ve known that for quite a while, ever since we glimpsed her fighting Chun-Li in one of the earlier CG trailers for the game. Though her rival/partner Lili has been revealed some time ago, Capcom’s still holding out on officially revealing the Interloper from Osaka. Not known when we’ll see a trailer show off Miss Kazama, though Ono did mention the next new stuff in SFxTekken would be shown off at an Asian gaming show in December. That’s still some ways off, so maybe we’ll see something much earlier… hopefully. For now, just gaze at that bulky boot in longing, but know she’s in there at least. It’s only a matter of time.

Tekken, the First Generation.

Gamasutra just posted an exclusive interview with Tekken series producer/director Katsuhiro Harada, revealing some detailed insights and information on the background of this iconic fighting game franchise. It’s light on any info on upcoming or current Tekken titles, but this article should be interesting for longtime Iron Fist fans or anyone who consider themselves a Beat ‘Em Up fan. Oh, and Harada gives us what may be THE definitive summary of the entire Tekken Saga. Heh… Check out the article over here.

Xianghua’s little girl will kill you with cuteness!

Things have been quiet on the fighting game front as of late.. well, unless you’re in France where it seems that the latest build of Soul Calibur V are making the rounds. Up above is hot new SCV gameplay from uber-gamer Kayane at the Paris Game Week event, using newly-revealed fledgeling warrior Leixia (Xianghua’s daughter). There’s even a bit of action from Guest Fighter Ezio Auditore and the returning Nightmare mixed in as well. Have to say I am liking some of the new touches, like the transitions between multi-level stages. Pretty cool!

As a bonus, here’s another vid from Paris Game Week, showing off Hisaharu Tago presenting the game for the press and gamers. Of course, since everything spoken in it is either French or Japanese, but we English speakers can still enjoy the visuals and the kinda-cheezy-but-cool cosplay. Heheh…

Tago-san shows off the newest SCV build.

As for Leixia, what can I say ‘cept… man, Leixia got her mom’s good looks and skills in oodles. Still think those shoes are pretty silly-looking though.

Soul Calibur V is out on PS3 and Xbox360 this coming January 31, 2012.

Tekken 3D Prime Edition Release Date!

A sorely-needed title on the 3DS…

Famitsu of Japan has revealed that Tekken 3D Prime Edition has been given a release date of February 16, 2012. This is probably just for Japan; I’d expect other territories to get it either earlier or around the same time. As previously announced, the game will include a 3D version of the Tekken: Blood Vengeance CG movie.

I’m certainly awaiting this, though I’m pretty peeved that up to now, I haven’t really gotten any more fun from my 3DS since getting Resident Evil 3D The Mercenaries, which was a couple of months ago. Perhaps I’ll squeeze more enjoyment from this rock of a portable once I have a Tekken game on it. Still, aside from the movie extra, there’s been little to no info on 3D Prime since- all we know so far is that it SHOULD have the roster of fighters from Tekken 6 (about 40 fighters), which includes the young version of Heihachi, and that it can maintain 60 FPS even with the 3D effects turned on. Hopefully we’ll find out more about this title, and what other features it will have once Harada and the Tekken team find the time for it.

More as we get it then…

Soul Calibur V Interview @ Playstation Blog: Gameplay, Ezio, Character Creation!

Posted in Assassin's Creed, Fan Service, Fighting Games, Game Advertising, Game-related Events, Gaming, PS3, Soulcalibur 5, Xbox360 on October 26th, 2011 by thelonegamer

The Official Playstation Blog just scored a slick interview with Rich ‘FilthieRich’ Bantegui, Namco-Bandai’s Community Manager and overall cool dude on Soul Calibur V. The highlights of the article include the new additions to gameplay, Ezio Auditore’s gameplay style and, best of all for me, some nice tidbits about Character Creation! So check out the whole thing over here.

Really cool to finally hear the goods on CAS, even if it pretty much confirms that we’ll be using the existing roster styles for the created characters. The more detailed and layered customization and the ability to alter gameplay variables is intriguing though. Hopefully we won’t have to wait too long to see a sample of this much-beloved feature. The Soul burns hard this coming January 31, 2012.

Skyrim’s graphics just got a next-gen upgrade!!! Kidding.

Okay, this looks like an actual commercial for the next month’s Fire-breathing Dragon of a Release, Elder Scrolls V Skyrim, though I can’t be totally sure. It certainly can’t be a simple fan work, that’s for sure. Anyway, I don’t know why they bothered to make such a spot when gamers will salivate all the more with just pure in-game footage. It looks cool at least. I really don’t think I can get any more excited for this game though… it’s already SOLD and I’ll be playing this probably well into next year. It’s freakin’ Elder Scrolls, dammit. I’m already growing a beard and knitting underwear made of beast hide in anticipation. The game is out on the unique date of 11-11-11… only about 17 days away. Almost there.

Anime Break! Last Exile: Fam, The Silver Wing (Episodes 1 and 2)

Posted in Action Adventure, Anime, Fan Service, My Stuff, TV on October 24th, 2011 by thelonegamer

Giant airship battles, feisty flying cuties… Yep, Last Exile’s back.

A long time ago, in a Galaxy Far, Far Away… I was a younger Otaku who guzzled anime like soda. During that time, Gonzo was the studio often in the spotlight, and Last Exile was one of their classics. This series, full of cloudy worlds and warring airship fleets surely captured the minds of countless anime fans, mixing steampunk with mystical powers, light-hearted adventure (initially) with more dark, serious drama. Truth be told, I need to re-watch the series again to remember all the details, but it’s still the first title I quote when I want to bring to mind awesome anime. So now, the sequel, Last Exile: Fam, the Silver Wing, is here, airing on Animax here in Manila every weekend, same time as Japan.

Set in another part of Prester, far from the warring states of Anatoray and Disith in the first LE, this time we take on the conflict between the Kingdom of Turan and the Ades Federation. I guess parallelisms to Phantom Menace are inescapable with Turan being smaller and seemingly less aggressive with their cute princesses and graceful, T-shaped airships, while we can see the more foreboding and militaristic Ades fleet as the ‘bad guys’- well, since they broke a supposed peace accord and started attacking with no provocation, that’s pretty unmistakable. Into this conflict barge in the titular Fam Fam Fan, a young Sky Pirate with amazing Vanship skills (and a nasty habit of sleepwalking… dangerous when you’re on a freakin’ AIRSHIP).

Though they’d probably be better off just staying out of the action and just hijacking the occasional lone airship, for some reason Fam and her Sky Pirate gang come to the aid of Turan- showing that good guys stick together, or perhaps the Sky Pirates just don’t like seeing bullies- at first saving the embattled princesses escape then later personally flying one royal highness back to Turan. Obviously though, as the war continues with no end in sight, Fam, her people and the princess she’s taken under her wing are in for the journey of their lives.

At just by the second episode there have been a couple of big battles, tons of Vanship daring-do, the return of old favorite Dio Eraclea from the first series, the revelation that there’s another Exile, or giant super-powered starship, in existence and a whole city pulverized (which shows that this new series isn’t all cute and fluffy). What the bad guys are planning, what other familiar faces like Tatiana Wisla will play in this conflict and what one spunky little Sky Pirate can do in all this will be revealed I guess, as Silver Wing flies off in earnest.

Veteran Otaku who’ve seen the first Last Exile series will no doubt have more of a leg up going into this series, but also perhaps have the baggage of comparing it with the original- I say take Fam for what it is- a new tale in the same world, familiar but a whole different story. For the rest, don’t dwell too much in things that don’t make sense- just hang onto Fam, bask in the gorgeous visuals and music, and enjoy the ride.

For now, I guess, I gotta dust off those anime VCDs and have an original Last Exile marathon very soon.

Girls, GIRLS! Can’t we all get along..?

We’re inching closer and closer to the release of Soul Calibur V, and the game’s looking better and better the nearer it gets. We’re all still probably reeling from the large amount of reveals in the past several days- Ezio Auditore, Leixia, Nightmare, Raphael, Dampierre and such- but here’s a bit more info to chew on. Gamer Jaxel has posted a very detailed article on the latest build of SCV, including comments on the new characters, gameplay and other aspects. If you’re interested in the game, check ‘em out over here.

Ezio and Raphael duke it out.

So far I am loving how the game looks- the Stages are amazing (damn that Chinese stage ROCKS!), the characters look super-detailed, the current storyline intriguing and the things they are doing to make this new SC full of content is commendable. If I have any gripes it’s that the gameplay may be a bit too flashy- too many lights and sparks going on that it’s kinda obscuring the fighters themselves. But that’s just a teeny nitpick… this game is already sold for me. January 31, 2012 can’t come soon enough- and I’m wanting that Collector’s Edition. More as we get it then. For now, enjoy the SCV gameplay vids above from ExaminerGames.
