Gamers guessed the live-action teaser shown recently was for GOW. They were right.

Looks like Sony is really pulling out all the stops for hyping up the return of everyone’s favorite Spartan Warrior, Kratos, in God of War: Ascension. The game got a pretty slick live-action commercial for Superbowl 2013, featuring a look at Kratos in the flesh (before and after the ash makeover) for a shot of emotion aside from the usual bloodthirsty rage. There’s also a lengthy feature over at IGN which shows off the first 30 minutes of the game- spoilers aplenty, I guess, but really- Kratos meets mythic monsters, Kratos starts wiping the floor with them- what’s to spoil?

A whole half-hour of Kratos owning baddies, right here.

The game certainly looks like more of the same, with the familiar fiery blades of chaos once again whirling in their dance of death. Fans will probably be pleased to see their hero in action again, even if it’s a prequel.

Adam Sessler over at Revision 3 gives his thoughts on GOWA.

God of War: Ascension is set some time after Kratos murdered his wife and child, and chronicles his uphill battle to free himself from Ares’ bondage. Facing off against him are the Furies- a trio of demonic punishers who aim to keep the Spartan in eternal damnation… right. The game is out on PS3 this March.
