Guilty Gear Xrd Revelator Arcade Intro, Jam Revealed!

More Guilty Gear Xrd means there is still good in this world.

Just over the weekend, we got a new video for Guilty Gear Xrd Revelator, the as-of-yet Arcade-Only Upgrade to Guilty Gear Xrd Sign. It’s actually the arcade version’s Intro or Opening Cinematic, which includes a cutscene between ‘That Man’ and another character (Raven?), then a cool Intro featuring all of the returning cast, the new characters Johnny and Jack-O, and ONE other.

Just revealed right at the end of the video is another addition to the roster- fighting waitress Jam Kuradoberi (yes, she is named Cranberry Jam). Jam will be added into the game sometime after the arcade version’s August 25 release in Japan.

This is pretty much a no-brainer for release on console- though I am wondering if they’ll give it as an actual disc release or an upgrade (perhaps both). I do hope they add more characters for the home editions- three new fighters is nice but could be better.

I can’t wait in particular to see what happens in the next chapter of the Story Mode- it’s pretty cool to see Sol, Sin and Ramlethal all together- no doubt on their way to try and rescue Elphelt (who’s sporting a new look). Here’s to the hope that this awesome brawler arrives on our PS4s and XBox Ones sooner rather than later.

UPDATED! Jack-O: Guilty Gear Xrd Revelator’s New Character!

A Halloween-themed New Challenger?

The all-new character to be added to the upcoming Guilty Gear Xrd: Revelator has been revealed. Jack-O, a mysterious female fighter sporting a sleek outfit accentuated by an apparently sentient ball-and-chain as well as a mask, joins the oddball cast of Xrd with the arcade upgrade. She is apparently another associate or ally of ‘That Man’, in the same vein as I-No and Raven.

Jack-O Location Test Footage.

From what I can tell, Jack-O may be short for ‘Jack-O-Lantern’ given the look of her mask and the ball-and-chain attached to her ankle (which may or may not be a familiar, like Ramlethal’s Lucifero). Her attacks are described as ‘comical’, and she looks quite interesting.

Jack-O’s Intro: Cute and creepy?

There has been speculation that there may be room for one more character to be added on the Character Select screen- in Xrd’s case, the more the merrier! I am really hoping this to make the jump to consoles eventually, but for now I’ll settle for checking out vids once the Location Tests start shortly.

Jack-O’s Win Animation. Dat ass.

Judging from the vids so far seen online, Jack-O appears to be mute, or a woman of few words. She does like lollipops, does she? And the camera seems to love her (rather fetching) derriere… Need to see more of this lady, definitely!

Guilty Gear Xrd: Revelator?! Johnny Returns!

The Leader of the Jellyfish Pirates returns in playable form.

Just in today- Arc System Works announced an arcade upgrade to their popular anime-esque fighter, Guilty Gear Xrd Signs. Entitled Guilty Gear Xrd: Revelator, this maybe-sequel will add various things, including balance changes, a new ‘Stylish Mode’ of easy gameplay and, best of all, New Characters!

The first new character is Johnny, the popular captain of the Jellyfish Pirates of whom May is a part of. He did figure quite prominently in the Story Mode, so his absence was kinda odd in the first place. Anyways, I’m sure his fans will be celebrating.

But even more intriguing is a totally new(?) challenger who has so far only been shown via a silhouette of her artwork below. And yes, I assume this new fighter is female, or a very radical redesign of Bridget.

Who is THIS?!

Looking at the profile, she has coiffed hair pretty much like Lili Rochefort’s, but her overall image seems to bring to mind Kula Diamond. Not sure what’s up with her hand- are those straps? Is she wearing a kind of straitjacket? What is that thing floating over her head, some sort of halo?

She lacks the rabbit-ears that would mark her as a Valentine; if she isn’t a redesigned returnee, perhaps she is the revealed behind-the-scenes manipulator in Story Mode…?

Anyways, Revelator will see arcade test runs in Japan this early June. I am hoping for more characters to be added, and a console upgrade release eventually. I love Xrd, so I’ll be keeping an eye on this one.

Guilty Gear Xrd’s Story Mode Previewed!

Go beyond the Arcade Mode…

Arc System Works recently streamed a couple of major videos showing off their upcoming console releases of Guilty Gear Xrd SIGN. One showed off the game’s extended Story Mode, which goes beyond the uniform ‘Bad Ending’ everyone seems to get in the regular Arcade mode. Unfortunately, unless you speak Japanese, the action above will be kinda hard to follow. However, we do see Leo, the newly-revealed additional character
It also looks like after Sol wins and is subsequently attacked by Ramlethal, an intervention by new character Elphelt allows Sol to turn the tables, capturing the kawaii boss girl. What happens then? Can the heroes somehow stop the apocalypse from the Backyard? Does every character get the full story treatment like the cinematics above? I do hope so- this looks amazing.

A LONG features promotional vid is available as well.

Aside from the Story Mode preview vid, ASW also posted a more than 12-minute PV showing off the game’s many features, modes and even extras. It’s all in Japanese, but hey, we get to see more of the game which is never bad. GGXrd is out in Japan this coming December 4, while US gamers get it on December 16.

Guilty Gear Xrd SIGN US Release Date!

Now this is one gorgeous brawler.

FINALLY after what seemed to be an eternity, the official Playstation Blog has revealed the release date for the US version of Guilty Gear Xrd SIGN. The game will be out on PS3 and PS4 on December 16- just two weeks after the Japanese release.

On offer will be one amazing-looking game, that will be 1080p on PS4 at 60FPS (720p on PS3), with wonderfully-detailed and animated 3D characters made to look like 2D sprites- reaLly, this game is literally an anime in 3D in every sense, and it is awesome. 16 characters are playable at last count, which include a host of returning favorites and several newcomers.
The all-new fighters include the mysterious Bedman- a strange young man (yes MALE) who fights while asleep in a menacing ambulatory BED- the seemingly emotionless but super-cute Ramlethal Valentine- the game’s apparent boss and world-threatening super-villainess who come with two HUGE swords for dealing with lowly mortals.

Making their debut on the consoles are Sin and Elphelt. Sin is the son of series protagonist Ky Kiske and his wife Dizzy- a young man (he grew to his current state at an accelerated rate) who fights with his dad’s trademark lightning and what appears to be a flagpole(?). Meanwhile, Elphelt (who really reminds me of Alisa froM Tekken) is an artificial girl- yet another Valentine and purportedly Ramlethal’s sibling- who is dressed in wedding-like attire and wields a variety of firearms- talk about shotgun wedding!

The home versions of Xrd will include an extended Story/Arcade mode that will elaborate more on the plot that was left hanging in the arcade version, which we assume will include cutscenes and better endings. The expected home modes should also be included. As for any more extra characters, that remains to be seen.

This is one of my most-wanted games right now, and I am fully intending to get a PS4 just for it (if not for Dragon Age Inquisition). December is going to be awesome.

TGS 2014: Guilty Gear Xrd SIGN Epicness!

Posted in Action Adventure, Anime, Arcade, Fan Service, Fighting Games, Game-related Events, Gaming, Guilty Gear Xrd Sign, PS3, PS4 on September 18th, 2014 by thelonegamer

It’s all about EPIC trailer goodness!!!

ArcSystemWorks’ anime-styled beat ‘em up Guilty Gear Xrd Sign is coming this holiday season, and I am really wanting this game so bad. It’s GORGEOUS as heck- literally an awesome anime action extravaganza you play, and it is looking freakin’ amazing. Aside from the expanded story mode, the game will come with at least two console-exclusive characters- Sin Kiske (son of protagonist Ky) and the recently-introduced Elphelt. For their TGS showing, Arc showed off a new ‘Epic’ trailer which shows off scenes from the Story Mode (which is really my prime mode to play) and 10 minutes of raw gameplay showing off the console newcomers.

The game is set for release on PS3 and PS4 in early December in Japan- hoping it comes earlier for us Gaijin! We’ll see. My body is ready… say the word, GGXrd, and I’ll buy a PS4. Haha!

The Devs show off Sin and Elphelt gameplay.

Sin Kiske Coming to Guilty Gear Xrd Sign PS3, PS4

Posted in Anime, Fan Service, Fighting Games, Game Advertising, Game-related Events, Gaming, Guilty Gear Xrd Sign, PS3, PS4 on July 4th, 2014 by thelonegamer

Flag-waving Sin is coming to consoles.

It’s been known for some time that the console versions of Guilty Gear Xrd SIGN will be featuring some new characters, and now we know who at least one of them is- Sin Kiske, the son of series’ favorites Ky Kiske and Dizzy. Sin first appeared in the GG spin-off game, Guilty Gear 2: Overture. Being the son of a King and his Gear wife/lover is a bit of a big secret, so Sin was sent off to be taken care of and raised by Ky’s best friend/rival Sol Badguy. Despite being just ten years old(!) chronologically, he looks quite grown.
Sin’s fighting style revolves around his battle standard and ‘full stomach’ meter- using special moves depletes this, and when his belly’s empty he can no longer do specials. Eating something in mid-battle will rectify this.

Sin will have all the trimmings of regular characters, including a part in the Story. It’s not know yet whether Sin will be the only new character added to GGXrd, but we’ll surely see more if gamers want that. The game will be released on PS3 and PS4 this holiday season.

Guilty Gear Xrd SIGN E3 Stage Demo

Frustrating watch for one of my most-wanted games coming this year.

Okay, the video above- Guilty Gear Xrd SIGN’s stage demo feature from Gamespot- is just yet another example of why Japanese fighting games are sadly hamstrung whenever they present on shows like this. The actual guy who knows everything (in this case GG’s creator/game dev Daisuke Ishiwatari) can’t speak a word of Japanese, so half of the time is wasted on him speaking in Japanese and for his translator (whom I think they just sourced externally since she also plainly knows NOTHING about what she’s trying to explain) to try and figure out how to relay his words to a reporter who ALSO knows nothing (I love Cam on the Skyrim Mod series but DAMN he’s out of place here). It’s sheer frustration. Harada of Tekken should really value his English-speaking colleague, Michael Murray.

They barely talk about the game, the story, the modes, any home-only features… they can’t even show more than the series’ two most common ly-seen characters when you have a whole roster of awesome and interesting fighters to show off. DAAAAMN. Such a wasted opportunity.

ANYWAY… Guilty Gear Xrd SIGN features awesome, awesome-looking 3D anime art and graphics, hardcore fighting action, a more expanded Story mode and will feature at least one new character exclusive to the console. It will be out on PS3 and PS4 this Holiday 2014. Can’t freakin’ wait.

Guilty Gear Xrd SIGN Headed for Consoles!

Guilty Gear Xrd’s Arcade Intro.

We’ve known it for some time, but at last, Arc System Works has revealed through the latest issue of Famitsu Magazine that the console versions of their awesome brawler Guilty Gear Xrd SIGN will be hitting PS3 and PS4 this Fall 2014. Even better, according to the article, the two PS versions will have cross-play functionality, allowing players of either console versions to face off in VS Play. The PS4 version will also have upgraded visuals, which will output at full 1080p HD. The PS3 version will be limited to 720p.

Other extras will include at least one totally new character for the console version and an extended Story Mode that will continue where the plot left off in the Arcade version.

This is darn awesome. I’ve been wanting/needing a good beat ‘em up to get me to buy a PS4, and this definitely counts as one. Hoping to see more of this game next week at E3!

Guilty Gear Xrd SIGN Final Boss Playable in Next Patch

Posted in Arcade, Fan Service, Fighting Games, Game Advertising, Game-related Events, Gaming, Guilty Gear Xrd Sign, PS3, PS4 on March 13th, 2014 by thelonegamer

Great news otakus- she’s single. Heheh.

The latest issue of Famitsu magazine reveals that recently-released arcade fighter Guilty Gear Xrd SIGN will be having an update very soon, whose primary addition will be to make Final Boss Ramlethal Valentine playable. This isn’t much of a surprise to many gamers who’ve been monitoring the beat ‘em up, but it’s a nice thing to have finally confirmed.
The character is voiced by seiyuu Megumi Han, and has this bio as her storyline.

A single girl who declared war on the entire world. A non-human life form born in the Backyard, which governs all of creation. Her connection to Valentine, who was responsible for the Baptism 13 incident in Italy, is unknown. An assassin of the Merciless Apocalypse, aiming for the eradication of humankind, Ramlethal has joined forces with The Senate out of common interest. Waking of the “Cradle” is her sole objective and mission.

Aside from the BIG-ASS swords she materializes in battle, she has a familiar named Lucifero (those floating balls beside her) who aids her in battle. The swords can be either used in close or dispatched (kinda like how Viola uses her Orb?) for a lot of mixups and combo possibilities.
You can see more info about her in the full article from Shoryuken.

This is pretty awesome. Playable bosses are always great, and with Xrd’s relatively small roster, any addition is welcome (Valentine is the second all-new character to be introduced after Bedman). Really looking forward to this game when it comes out on console.
