Streetfighter V: Kolin Reveal Trailer

Posted in Fan Service, Fighting Games, Streetfighter, Streetfighter V on February 9th, 2017 by thelonegamer

Gill’s Lady Friday is the next new character in SFV Season 2.

It’s been a while since the start of Streetfighter V‘s Season 2, which start off with the addition of Akuma (or ‘Daisy’ as some have taken to calling him…) to the roster. Well, Season 2 is well along with the upcoming addition of the latest new combatant. Kolin has just been revealed in the above trailer as the next new fighter. Formerly known as Helen in the game’s Story Mode, she is the secretary(?) or lead henchwoman of Gill, the leader of the Illuminati and Streetfighter III’s Final Boss.

SPOILER ALERT for those who haven’t played SFV’s Story Mode (WHY HAVEN’T YOU?). At the very end of the game, after the credits roll (or is it before?), Gill is seen to be the ‘mysterious man’ Helen has been saying will lead the world to a new future. The now-bearded Gill then apparently reveals Helen’s true(?) appearance an identiy, that of Kolin. Now why she had to bother being disguised as another blonde woman is beyond me but well- reasons.

During the events of the SFV Story, Helen already possessed obvious abilities, such as supernatural agility (she pickpocketed Rashid of the pivotal chess pieces without him knowing) and some for of energy control to heal or empower Nash, but now as Kolin, she is revealed to have ice-based fighting ability as well (no doubt given to her by her master). She supposedly has rekka-type attacks, and unusual projectiles. We’ll surely be given more views of this character in the next few weeks, as we slowly make to her release on February 28.

To be fair, I didn’t think I was going to be very interested in Kolin- Helen wasn’t that appealing a character, but now seeing the trailer I do want to see what Capcom’s version of Kula can do. We’ll see, won’t we?

UPDATE: The official SFV Blog has updated with a post on Kolin. Apparently she practices the art of Systema, a Russian Martial Art (also seen used by Marie Rose in DOA5) and is described as ‘A Phantasm of Snow and Ice’. Check out Capcom’s post here.

Streetfighter V: Full CG Cinematic Trailer

Are you ready for Streetfighter V?

With just a little more than a week to release, Streetfighter V gets the full CG treatment with its full-length launch trailer/CG Intro. Expanding on a shorter version released some time ago, this new trailer features the entire cast (minus DLC fighters, sadly) and shows them in various situations leading up to the Big Brawl. We see Chun-Li, Cammy and Ken getting ready, as well as Ryu preparing himself yet again. Charlie Nash seemingly rises from a grave, even as a more badass but older M.Bison steps onto the world stage once again for another bid at conquest. Returning characters, new characters- blink and you may miss one or two. I find myself thinking, will Evil Ryu surface at one point, given how Ryu ‘hulks out’ in the trailer near the end? Anyway, I haven’t been able to play the Beta so I am really looking forward to playing this game, preferably on PC (though I will most probably be getting it for PS4 as well). This is the SF game we’ll be playing for the foreseeable future, so let’s get comfy with it. Just a little more waiting…

Streetfighter V: F.A.N.G. Trailer

F.A.N.G.? W.T.F?

It’s a bit late, but last week Capcom released the trailer for the final character of the initial roster for Streetfighter V during the Playstation Experience Event. My reaction to the fourth all-new fighter to debut in SFV is… WHAT THE-?!

F.A.N.G.’s (FANG from here on) design is of course not totally unknown- he looks like that stereotypical oriental villain with the glasses, wide-brimmed hat, overlong-sleeved robe and moustache/goatee… but I guess what creeped me out was his odd proportions- he’s too LONG and narrow, he doesn’t look normal- which is even weirder considering that the game already has pretty wild proportions for everyone else. In a roster of weirdos, FANG looks off-kilter as heck, which is saying a lot. Add to that his odd, effeminate movements and the voice (which makes me think of Chinese actor/VA James Hong), he’s really an oddball.

Well, given that FANG’s supposed to be a villain (and Second-in-command of Shadaloo, no less), I guess he’s fine. He certainly looks malevolent, and his poison attacks fit a baddie. That he doesn’t fit any previous mold of a character is a good thing, I guess- Capcom is keeping it fresh, even if we all found him disturbing as hell initially.

Streetfighter V is still a ways off- about two months away, but I am really looking forward to it. Thankfully the DLC characters are confirmed so I really want this game now. February can’t come soon enough.

Streetfighter V: Laura Matsuda Officially Revealed!

Posted in Fan Service, Fighting Games, Game Advertising, Game-related Events, Gaming, PC Gaming, PS4, Streetfighter, Streetfighter V on October 9th, 2015 by thelonegamer

The Beauty from Brazil is now Officially Out!

After quite a few rather embarrassing leaks preceding her debut, the latest all-new fighter to be introduced in Streetfighter V is finally out and about. Laura, or Laura Matsuda, is a master of Matsuda Jiu Jitsu, and is constantly looking for challengers and opportunities to raise the fame of her family’s fighting style. She is also the elder sister of Streetfighter III’s Sean (Ken’s disciple).

Laura’s style includes grapples and holds which invariably leave her opponents pinned to the ground, as well as an odd, slow-moving projectile called a ‘Thunder Clap’. Her V-Skill is called Linear Movement, and is used to let Laura close the distance to her opponent. Her V-Trigger is called ‘Spark Show’ which augments her already-potent techniques.

Plus, in case you missed it before, here’s her launch trailer.

Streetfighter V: Laura Reveal Trailer!

Not Blanka! SFV’s Brazilian entry is nevertheless just as shoking.

Just as the first images of the latest Streetfighter V all-new character were leaked online, the trailer for Laura’s reveal was apparently also posted a bit too early- by none other than Sony, at that.

Instead of the usual Capoeira (although she does seem to have some attacks from that style), Laura’s fighting arts are based on Brazilian Ju Juitsu- which means arm locks, ground grapples and interlocking bodies… hmmm. She also apparently has some sort of slow-moving projectile and electricity spicing up her moves. Is she related to Blanka?
While I certainly enjoy the fan service of such a looker of a fighter, I wish her design was a bit more- exciting. Her outfit is a bit plain, though I guess in terms of fighting game outfits its probably one of the most realistic.

Laura should be officially unveiled today or tomorrow by Yoshinori Ono at the Brazil Game Show- hopefully after then we’ll get more info and media on this lovely grappler.

Streetfighter V: Zangief Reveal Trailer and Laura Leak!

Posted in Fan Service, Fighting Games, Game Advertising, Game-related Events, Gaming, PC Gaming, PS4, Streetfighter V on October 3rd, 2015 by thelonegamer

The Russian Grappler returns!

Things have been quite revealing this past week, with no less than two fighters being uncovered for the upcoming Streetfighter V, albeit not all intentionally. First off, the Guardian of Russia’s Skies, Zangief, was revealed during an event in, well, Russia. Reactions were, of course, mixed- basically if you like Zangief you’ll be thrilled… everyone else was like, meh. Or MEH.

Laura is revealed- though not a trailer, yet.

Much more explosive was the subsequent and sudden reveal online- through what apparently was a mistake by Famitsu of Japan- of an all-new female fighter named Laura. This new girl has actually been on ‘leaked’ roster lists for months now, but it has only this week been confirmed by the pics. Laura’s pics apparently got mixed in with Zangief’s gallery (the pics have since been taken down but have since been reposted elsewhere)- it may be safe to say sadly that someone may lose their job over this blunder.

Anyway, Laura’s design, aside from her being quite predictably hot- is actually pretty simple. She looks like, in all ways, a female Eddy Gordo from Tekken, or Capcom’s version of Christie Monteiro. Although it must be noted that her apparent moves shown appear to be Brazilian Jujuitsu. We won’t know for sure until we actually see her in action, which may not be for a couple of weeks- at least until Yoshinori Ono’s visit to a Brazilian Game Event (which he teased months ago) later this month. For now though, we have pics and I have to say while she looks pretty plain in comparison to every other gal in SF, she looks good. Can’t wait to see her kick ass.

Streetfighter V: Karin Revealed at TGS2015!

OJOH-SAMAAAA! HOHOHOHOOOO!

She’s BAAAACK….. Karin Kanzaki, heiress to the Kanzaki Financial Empire and rival eternal to Sakura Kasugano has just been revealed at this year’s Tokyo Game Show. She looks mainly like she did way back in her debut in Streetfighter Alpha 3- those distinct blonde hair curls, the red and black outfit- and that laugh. THAT LAUGH.

Gotta be honest, not really a Karin fan, not one of those who asked for her back, but she looks pretty cool and her fighting style is very distinct and interesting. Her design also looks quite good (even if her face is basically Cammy with an attitude).
Just have to point out- at this point, we have three blonde girls in the game. How about some brunette or Asian love, Capcom? I’m expecting that since Karin is in, Sakura can’t be far behind (or she’ll eventually be one of the fighters added via post-launch DLC). I’m still hoping we see Juri back (she was part of the leaked roster that included Rashid). Not sure if the rumors that there may be one or two more reveals before TGS is over… but I guess we’ll see over the weekend.

For now though, check out Ojoh-sama in action. You wanted her, you got her.

Rashid Revealed for Street Fighter V!

Posted in Fan Service, Fighting Games, Game Advertising, Game-related Events, Gaming, PS4, Streetfighter V on September 12th, 2015 by thelonegamer

A speedy wind-warrior named Rashid joins the battle!

At a gaming event in Dubai on Friday, Capcom’s Yoshinori Ono did his usual high-energy routine in front of a rather small gaming crowd, promoting Streetfighter V and sbowing off the latest character reveal. The unveiled fighter was not a returning fighter, as some sources said prior to the release. Rashid is an Arab fighter- very much like Shaheen in Tekken 7- but his style of fighting is quite unique. Combining Parkour abilities with an apparent power to harness the winds, Rashid is a highly mobile, speedy and deceptive combatant. Perhaps it may be stereotypical, but he looks exactly like a genie from Arabian Nights when he uses his tornado-like attacks. How does he control the winds, exactly? The odd harness/backpack he is wearing may provide answers. I doubt he’s a relative of Leopold Goenitz…

I actually like his design- the cloth of his costume animates great and the wind skills are cool to see. The ‘scouter’ eyepiece he wears is a bit odd, but adds a unique bit to his look.

The next character reveal for SFV has been set for next weekend, at the Tokyo Game Show.

Streetfighter V: From Beast to Beastly Beauty… Vega Revealed!

The Spanish Ninja is back!

Earlier this week, at the start of Gamescom 2015, Capcom released the newest Character Reveal trailer for Streetfighter V. In contrast to the previous reveal that showed off the all-new fighter, Necalli, this time we get one of the original Streetfighter II Bosses- Vega, the Spanish Ninja.

The Masked Matador is quite a surprise, given that he is basically part of a set. What about Sagat and Balrog? Will they be in the launch lineup, or as the follow-up add-ons? Only time will tell.

Anyway, his outfit is apparently one of his past alts, though as someone who NEVER uses Vega I can’t be aware of that. I DO like the look of his moves, particularly as he beats up on new guy Necalli. He’s back, that’s for sure. His new skills include a projectile rose which follows up with a devastating combo, and a Matador Evade move. Intriguing!

With two males in a row, I am hoping that the next fighter is of the fairer sex- will it be an all-new combatant, or a returning lady? When is the next FGC event? Man, I can’t wait!!!

Some (noobish) Vega gameplay at Gamescom.

Streetfighter V Latest Info!

Posted in DLC, Extra Costumes, Fan Service, Fighting Games, Game Advertising, Game-related Events, Gaming, PC Gaming, PS4, Streetfighter V on July 20th, 2015 by thelonegamer

It may be a little delayed, but here’s the latest information on Streetfighter V as a whole from the recent SFV Panel at EVO 2015.

• Streetfighter V will be moving away from Capcom’s past practice of disc-based updates and sequels. The initial SFV disc will be the only one you’ll ever need.

• There will be 16 Characters playable at launch.

• Four of the initial 16 fighters will be all-new, original characters. The first of these is the just-revealed Necalli.

• All system updates will be available for all players free. Post-launch gameplay content can be unlocked/earned with two types of currency. Fight Money is earned by playing the game and can be used to earn/unlock content. However, there is as well Zenny- currency that is bought with real money that can be used to buy content instead of using Fight Money. Zenny is for those who are impatient and want to unlock stuff right away.

• Aside from the initial 16 fighters, additional characters will be added to the roster regularly post-launch to keep the game fresh.

This all sounds pretty good. I am glad that there will eventually be more characters aside from the rather slim-sounding 16. Streetfighter V will be available exclusively for the PS4 and PC in Spring 2016.
