Tekken 7 Story, VR and Customization Previews!

Tekken 7 is looking EXCELLENT.

With little over a month of excruciating waiting to go, this week suddenly got a HUGE update of Tekken 7 content and previews, starting with an almost 5-minute long Gameplay Mode trailer for the game (Japanese only so far, the translated/localized version will be posted next week according to Harada).

Gameplay Modes on offer.

But soon after the release of the trailer, even more expansive previews were soon posted by Gamespot and other channels, showing off lengthy snippets of Story Mode, a look at VR mode (exclusive to PSVR), Customization and the Ghost Battle-like Treasure Battle. There are indeed spoilers to be seen in these videos, so anyone seeking to remain ‘pure’ should take care.

Story Mode is looking REALLY good. It seems that the narrative will look back and portray pivotal scenes in the Mishima Saga history and make them PLAYABLE- such as the fated duel of a young Kazuya and his father, Heihachi (set prior to the first Tekken) and the father-and-son free-for-all with the Jacks in Honmaru Temple (set before Tekken 5). The Rivalry between father and son is the central focus, with a decisive conclusion and the apparent death of one of the combatants to be the ultimate result- which will be canon? Something to be left unsaid until the next game, I guess.

But aside from that, the story is also continued from the events in Tekken 6′s Scenario Campaign, revealing what happened to the currently MIA Jin Kazama, now-former CEO of the Mishima Zaibatsu. In addition to cutscenes and one-on-one fights, there are pleasant surprises in the story, such as third-person ‘FPS’-like sequences. Apparently these minigame-like events and even some Quicktime Events will pepper the story mode. It truly does seem that the Tekken team has excellently used the extra development time to make a Story Mode that stands up to the challenge of competing fighters like Mortal Kombat and Streetfighter V.

Not all fighters will figure in the Mishima saga, but all the included characters will appear in their own Character Episodes which will have the expected CG (or realtime) endings to be unlocked at the end.

I have to admit, I am truly stoked and hyped for this game. I already purchased the PC version weeks ago, so all is ready. I can’t wait for this, surely the BEST and latest Tekken ever to grace our consoles. Just a few more weeks! WE CAN MAKE IT!!!

Tekken 7 TVC Shows Off Rage Arts, Story Scenes!

“The Best Fights are Personal.”

With March almost done, only about two months remain before Tekken 7 for the home releases. MAN! Two months. That’s just four paydays (unless you’re unemployed, like I am currently…). That’s really not too far off, but its still a wait… and fortunately, a lot of nice things can happen in that time. Stuff like character reveals, more costumes or customization parts being added, the Story mode being fleshed out more… that sort of thing. I can very well guarantee in the last month or so, the media blitz for this game will be all over the place. Fight fans have been waiting nigh on six or seven years for Tekken to come home (not since Tekken Tag 2), so this is a BIG THING. At least for fans and fighting gamers.

For now though, here’s the latest bit- a TV commercial posted online at the official Tekken Youtube channel (TekkenChannel) showing off some fighters doing Rage Arts and even some intriguing scenes which can be assumed taken from the cinematic Story mode. Now I am expecting that not only will the main players Kazuya, Heihachi and Jin be focused on, but hopefully every fighter will get their own story and scenes to be told. The game’s had all this time to be developed, and has been delayed at least once- we can expect or deserve no less.

Anyway, check out the vid above, and I’ll keep my eyes peeled on the next milestone till we reach June 2. Stay tuned!

Tekken 7FR @ EVO2016: Two New Characters Revealed!

The playable roster to Tekken 7 Fated Retribution just grew by two.

Earlier today during EVO 2016, Tekken Producer Katsuhiro Harada alomg with Tekken Team Member Michael Murray revealed two new characters added to the Tekken 7FR roster. First up was the super-heavyweight Bob, looking pretty much like he did in previous games, albeit with some new duds and some fancier moves, including a pretty rad-looking dive bomb, probably for his Rage Art. Right after Bob’s spot debuted the trailer for a newcomer named Master Raven- who is literally a female version of Tekken’s original black ninja. Harada immediately let out however that this isn’t Raven after a sex-change; she’s Raven’s boss, who certainly looks kick-ass enough to be the superior to our favorite Wesley Snipes’ lookalike.

Immediate reactions to the trailers was kinda mixed, even in the audience. Noticeably it wasn’t entirely all cheers of delight. There were some (perhaps) playful boos and some bits of confusion. I have to admit, I’m not that excited with either character- I was never into Bob OR Raven, but hey- they look pretty slick. We’ll probably learn more about them or perhaps get even more character reveals next week at Comicon, where Tekken 7 will again make an appearance. More on this as we get it!

Tekken 7 @ E32016!!! WE’RE ALIVE AGAIN!!!

Tekken 7: Confirmed coming home!

And with this, the webpage is ALIVE again! Tekken 7 has FINALLY been confirmed for a home release… ETA: Early 2017!

This long-awaited (and still being waited on) fighting sequel is coming to the major platforms- PS4, XB1 and Windows/Steam. This is unprecedented… can we expect user-made mods in the near future? MAYBE. POSSIBLY. HOPEFULLY!

The game will be sporting an all-new, just-introduced Cinematic Story Mode, where gameplay segues seamlessly into cutscenes. The E32016 trailer shows off the initial meeting between Streetfighter guest character Akuma and Heihachi Mishima, leading to a mammoth battle which is easily one of the most visually impressive yet seen for this series.

Glimpses and looks at the game show a main menu that with items marked as yet with a cryptic ‘???’. The roster from the arcade version, which saw the addition of classic female fighter Nina Williams, is expected to be enlarged further with many more new fighters going into next year’s release.

I’ve been waiting for this literally for years, and it seems that the wait- while still ongoing- will be worth every moment. More on this as we get it… Tekken is back, people!

Hell. It’s about time.

Tekken 7 Fated Retribution: Nina Williams Reveal Trailer!

The first LADY of Tekken returns.

Just shown off today at EVO2016 was the reveal trailer for Nina Williams in Tekken 7 Fated Retribution. The original blonde bombshell of Tekken returns wearing a tattered wedding dress, which offers obvious references to Kill Bill or perhaps even Parasite Eve: 3rd Birthday. Who knows? WHO CARES? She’s HAWT! Heheh. Anyways, Nina still has a lot of her old moves and grapples, plus her Rage Art has her doing a quite sexy finisher on the opponent which will surely have guys, um, feeling a bit… tight.

Nina is probably just the first of many additional fighters that will hopefully be debuted surely and steadily to the Tekken 7FR roster as we slowly inch to the February arcade location test dates, release and hoping against hope- a console release date? Stay tuned… more as we get it.

Tekken Designer Teases Tekken 7 VR

In an interview with UK’s WIRED, Tekken Team Member, Designer and resident interpreter for Katsuhuro Harada, Michael Murray, gave some bits about the upcoming VR mode for Tekken 7‘s console version.

First off, he reveals what it WON’T be. We WON’T be seeing a first-person fighting mode for the game, which was first seen back in Tekken 2 (and also seen in Square’s Bushido Blade and a bit in DOA5 for PSVita). I’m not sad about this in any way, since first-person combat really doesn’t work well. So what will be Tekken 7′s Virtual Reality gimmick?

Unfortunately we don’t actually get a straight answer, but Murray does give a bit of a hint- it will be about appreciating the characters themselves- the customizations and animations that the team has put into them. He goes on to mention Lucky Chloe as well, which leads me to this- will Tekken 7′s VR be its version of DOA5′s ‘Gravure’ modes, where you admire or ogle the characters? Now, I don’t see any of the fighters- be they female or not, lolling around a pool or playing on a swing for players to watch, but perhaps instead performing their motion-captured katas or demoing combos. Perhaps matches can be recorded and then watched with a free-flying camera?

Now, I hope that like Tekken 6 Bloodline Rebellion before it, Fated Retribution (or whatever it gets called in the home release) gets a LOT more customizations- possibly as more as there were in Tekken 6. Really, the customization system took a dumbed-down dive since Tekken Tag 2. I’m sure people have let the Tekken Team know about this, but here’s to them actually acting on it. There’s still time and as Harada has mentioned, adding things and content to the game is always possible.

Tekken 7 will most likely see a console release next year on PS4, and perhaps even on PC. We’ll just have to wait and see.

Tekken 7 Fated Retribution Arcade Upgrade Revealed!

A certain Master of the Dark Hadou finds himself in Tekken.

At the end of the King of Iron Fist Tournament Finals in Japan came a trailer for Tekken 7 Fated Retribution- What is this? It’s an upgrade to the original Arcade Tekken 7… just like Tekken 5 Dark Resurrection was for Tekken 5 and Bloodline Rebellion for Tekken 6. What will it bring? Fated Retribution will add new characters, new outfits and graphical upgrades as well as… AKUMA. Yep, that’s the big secret- the Master of Dark Hadou from Streetfighter’s absence in SFV is revealed (I guess)… he’s off in Tekken Land. With that in mind, what happens in terms of Tekken X Streetfighter? Hmmm…

Anyways, it’s almost certain that T7FR will be the version coming to consoles. The trailer above is specified as the ‘Arcade Version’, so expect the console game to have even more content- I am hoping at the very least they improve the customization and add much-missed faces to the roster (Nina, PLEASE?). But I think it’s safe to say the fighting game world is stunned right now… I can’t wait. 2016 will be an awesome year for fighters.
