We’ve all waited patiently, and over the weekend director Kevin Tancharoen made the internet’s collective mouths water in anticipation. Well, the wait is over and it’s HERE. More Mortal Kombat Legacy (well, a taste of what’s the come at least) in the two minute plus trailer above.

What do I think? The trailer looks fantastic, as trailers go. I expect a lot more action this time, as the events go into the actual tournament instead of just focusing on individual characters and their origins. Pretty sure there will be some cringe-worthy bits as well as the expected lip service (‘Get Over Here’ was used one too many times though heh) that makes this an MK series. In any case, this got me excited in MK again, and perhaps warrants a look at the first season to refresh my memory at what worked, what didn’t, and what I hope to see. In any case…

IT HAS BEGUN. Mr. Tagawa is THE MAN. Heheh.

‘Touch’ the DOA Girls like never before!

Here’s the latest trailer for the upcoming PS Vita fighter, Dead or Alive 5 Plus. A bit of an upgrade to the console versions, Plus brings all the action and cheesecake of Tecmo’s babe-licious fighter to the handheld, along with some unique uses of the device’s touchscreen. You can hold the device normally (horizontally) for the full panoramic view of the battlefield, or play with the PSV held vertically to focus on your opponent (they will fill up the whole screen). The ‘Touch Fight’ mode relegates controls to simple taps for blows, swipes for launchers and pinches for holds and grapples. Yes indeed, Team Ninja has finally brought the sexy fighting game you can play ANYWHERE with one hand. Heh.

Just the apparent fact that DOA5 looks so close to its console version is something special- this looks to be an awesome addition to the Vita library, and also a great way for PS3 X PSV play as you can share saves, progress and DLC between the two platforms. DOA5 Plus is really looking to be something special- this hits late next month.

‘Abyssmal’ First Week Sales for Streetfighter X Tekken PS Vita

Posted in Fighting Games, Game-related Events, Gaming, Playstation Vita, Streetfighter X Tekken on November 5th, 2012 by thelonegamer

According to this article over at, the PS Vita version of the cross-over brawler, Streetfighter X Tekken, have been pretty bad. As in, unprecedentedly LOW. The game’s first week sales in Japan totaled only 5400 units. That’s apparently very low, even considering that the PS Vita itself isn’t exactly touting a large installment base. This is just the latest blow (or yet another nail in the coffin) of this controversial fighter, which has gained the enmity of many gamers and fighting game fans due to various factors- the unpopular Gem system, additional ‘DLC’ Fighters being sold despite being already available on-disc and more.

This is really a sad thing for fighting games- this will, I’m sure, impact upon any future releases from Capcom, and certainly casts a bit of a pall over the release/development of the other game in this equation… the Namco-produced Tekken X Streetfighter, which has yet to be even shown in any form. The ‘collaboration’ between Capcom and Namco hasn’t exactly panned out, at least in the first phase, which can only be a negative in my view. Hopefully TXSF is still in development and will somehow revitalize the ‘Fighting Festival’ that seemed so promising a couple of years ago.

As for SFxTK Vita… sigh. Moving on, moving on.

Streetfighter X Tekken PS VITA ‘Episode 3′ Cinematics and Special Features Trailer!

The latest (and last?) episode of the SFxTK CG Cinematics arrives for SDCC.

And here it is, piping-hot with SDCC, the latest and perhaps longest of the CG cinematic ‘story’ trailers for the much-belabored Streetfighter X Tekken (for PS Vita). This one clocks in at an amazing 12 minutes, but even so still ends up feeling too short- Capcom should have just made an entire flick, dammit.

You gotta love the wonderful detail and implausibility- never mind that Cammy isn’t around to traipse around the snowy Antarctic in her leotard… you’ve got Sakura with her airy skirt, while Christie and Elena and barefoot and even more scantily-clad and frolicking in the frozen wastes. How ironic is it that the only character looking properly dressed for the place and even reacting to the cold is the one who can generate electricity from his body?

But hey, inappropriate clothing is no problem for me- my biggest gripe being that this spot yet again shows us tantalizing hints of magnificent brawls but will surely NEVER show us their resolutions. So like the previous trailer where we will never see how Devil Jin kicked Bison and Juri’s butts for beating up his sweet Ling, we’ll also never see a CG cinematic showing the surely-awesome three-way bout between Jin, Kazuya and Bison (and their respective Girl Fridays) ever… no, we the players have to fill that in with our gameplay experiences… BAH.

Anyways, this 12-minute flick will try to get gamers excited for the upcoming Vita version, even as the 12 extra DLC characters will be available for consoles by July’s end (PC will supposedly get theirs in September… woohoo). For now, check out as well the accompanying ‘features’ trailer for the Vita game. Wonder what else is gonna be revealed for SDCC?

The Vita’s coming stuffed with features as well as fighters.

8 Minutes of Streetfighters and Tekkeners messing around!

Some time ago, Capcom posted a pretty lengthy CG video showing off the upcoming DLC characters for Streetfighter X Tekken. Well, for E3 they’ve posted another long clip of pre-rendered action and interaction with both new and old fighters from the crossover fighter. Man, why don’t they post a full movie already? A feature length CG flick with both SF and Tekken characters would just be freakin’ awesome… I know I just want to see some of the confrontations being teased in these spots FINISHED, darn it. Anyway, it’s kinda sad that this is for PS Vita… I’m really not inclined to getting another portable, so I’ll just wait for the add-on fighters on my PS3 or PC version. For now though, well, we have this cool clip with quite a few hot babes and cool dudes tussling. Check it out!

CG Cutscenes set the stage for more Pandora Stories!

Finally stuff is trickling out of Capcom’s recent Captivate event, including a new Resident Evil 6 trailer and other stuff. But of course what got me interested is the trailer above- the ‘Episode 1′ spot for Streetfighter X Tekken on the PS Vita. The trailer debuts formally the somewhat controversial additional fighters who will make their debut on Sony’s new portable.

The unusually long trailer above features some all-new CG cutscenes that follow the new fighters’ stories- they seem to be prologues, which is new since the opening cutscenes in the console versions as yet are only still artworks. Pretty intriguing… I guess the devs want to really show that the new content isn’t just stuff they scrounged up, but a pretty major release with all the trimmings. Oh, and I am really thinking DAMN that Eddy Gordo is one lucky guy…
A couple more trailers show off in-game footage, with the new fighters in action. Pretty awesome action, it seems!

Anyway, the good news is that the Vita version will feature Cross-console play and assets- buy the Vita version and you’ll unlock the additional fighters on the PS3 game, plus any future DLC will be shared on either version! So in the end I think it all works out well. So let’s just enjoy these trailers (there’s even more on Youtube) for now and wait for the new goodies to come… even if it’s a kinda vague Fall 2012.

Action and drama unfolds as the crossover commences!

Capcom’s Streetfighter X Tekken is less than a week and a half away! To be honest, I wasn’t that hot for the game until recently, when I re-reviewed all the trailers and vids, and have lately been inundated with views of the gameplay and variety of characters. Obviously the game’s more free-form, combo and chain-heavy action looks fun as hell- fast and crazy but still nowhere near as spastic and mash-crazy as Marvel vs Capcom 3 (which I really don’t like). But the biggest pay-off for me is the stories of the battles between the two fighting game worlds, and the individual plotlines revealed so far between the many, many team-ups.
I assume the story will unfold via the game’s main Arcade Mode, starting with a Team Prologue (with artworks), with at least one cutscene with in-game graphics between the team and a rival duo. As for the endings, will they be real-time as well? Nope, apparently we can look forward to CG pre-rendered epilogues for the various teams, as tweeted by Yohinori Ono. When a fan asked ‘Are the endings in SFxTK cinematic like the trailers?’, the SF producer replied ‘Yes, ending is like trailer.’

This is cool news for me- I really enjoyed the CG story episodes for SFxTK; I wanna see them wrap up the various plots in spectacular fashion, to match the build-up. I hope they don’t hold back and show definite winners and losers in the various rivalries being setup in the get-go. It’s really been a long time since I’ve seen satisfying good ol’ fashioned fighting game Arcade Mode CG endings, and SFxTK just may deliver that sort of campy but unforgettable bits of sexy CG that’ll have gamers talking and discussing about which one is their fave and which ones fail for years.

Streetfighter X Tekken is out March 8 for PS3 and Xbox360, and eventually on PS Vita. More as we get it then!

Streetfighter X Tekken Vita to come with 12 More Characters

…AND the Roster Rowdiness continues in Streetfighter X Tekken.

The PS3 and Xbox360 versions of the crossover fighter aren’t even out yet but they may already be ‘outdated’. The reason? Earlier today several game sites reported that the Playstation Vita version of the game, which will be releasing this Fall, will see the debut of 12 MORE characters over the console versions- this includes (SF) Elena, Cody, Guy, Sakura, Blanka, Dudley, (TK) Alisa Bosconovitch, Christie Monteiro, Lars Alexandersson, Bryan Fury, Lei Wulong and Jack.

As for the consoles, no word yet on when they’ll get these additional characters- though it’s probably safe to assume they’ll eventually come as post-launch DLC.

Not much hope of seeing these new challengers anytime soon- apparently Capcom is using their release as part of Streetfighter’s 25th Anniversary celebration, a way of keeping SFxTekken fresh several months down the road and, of course, a way to sell more PS Vitas. Obviously though, players are understandably reacting in various ways… from being outraged at the prospect of having to put up with Paid DLCs to irritation that once again, their particular favorite fighter did not make the roster.
Capcom has mentioned that the initial disc of SFxTekken will be the only disc release needed by gamers- any additional content will be an upgrade content download similar to how it was done in SSFIV Arcade Edition (although that was also released on disc). No other details- I guess we’ll have to wait and see how this shapes up. So I guess I’ll be having SFxTekken as my 2nd fighter (after MK) on Vita eventually…

In any case, the basic SFxTekken is out in a couple of weeks on March 8. Still a lot of things that can happen in the next 14 or so days. Stay tuned.

WNF Singles Exhibition shows off the upcoming fighter!

Capcom’s mega-crossover Streetfighter X Tekken is right on the horizon. It’s gone gold and lots of characters have been introduced (albeit there may still be more revealed well into and after release), so now it’s all just a matter of time now before you get your World Warrior X Iron Fist Fighter dating game. Still, if you’re hankering to see more of this game then check up on the video above. Brought to us by Level Up Live, this solo exhibition tourney includes high-profile players like Justin Wong and Mike Ross, with commentary from UltraDavid and Capcom’s own Seth Killian (who provides a lot of info and insight into the game along the way). The gameplay is mostly SF characters, with Juri and Rufus looking pretty potent individually and as a team.

My excitement for this game is building day by day. I am liking the gameplay, which is fast and frenetic but not over-the-top crazy as a Marvel vs Capcom title. Looking at the Character Select screen I am pretty sure it’s got room for quite a few more entrants, who will hopefully just be Unlockables in the game and not DLC holdouts. The game is out in Early March, but for now, bask in the vid and start formulating your teams and strats.

Streetfighter X Tekken Prologues, Part Deux!

Posted in Fan Service, Fighting Games, Game Advertising, Game-related Events, Gaming, Playstation Vita, PS3, PSP Vita, Streetfighter X Tekken, Xbox360 on February 15th, 2012 by thelonegamer

Last week the Prologues and Intros of most of Streetfighter X Tekken’s available and official character teams were shown off in one long collection of crazy storylines and alliances. Well, about a week after here we have a few more. Two more teams- that of Jin Kazama with Ling Xiaoyu, and M. Bison with Juri Han. Tekken’s monstrous Ogre and SF’s murderous Master of Fist, Akuma, get their own individual intros, with nary a partner at their side. Given that the cinematic trailer for the two show them at odds, it seems unlikely they’ll be teaming up… does this mean each will be an individual sub-boss fighters will face on the way to Pandora? Then WHO or WHAT will be the true Final Boss? TRUE AKUMA?! Or will it be… Dan? Nah.

Have to say, I’m pretty curious as to how these storylines will play out. If history repeats itself, Bison had better watch out lest he find Juri’s foot in his face at the end of it all. I definitely am finding myself excited for this upcoming fighter. March can’t come soon enough.
