A world inspired by dreams and nightmares. Yep, that sounds about right.

Kickstarter and Indiegogo are awesome. Well, barring any potential mishaps or hanky-panky, the possibility for wonderful yet unfortunately underfunded ideas, concepts and in this case games to see the light of day is truly a great thing. Many months ago the first-ever such venture I funded (on Indiegogo) was Skullgirls, which went on to smash its initial goal and earn enough to keep the game updating with new characters for the foreseeable future.

How here’s THIS game, Hyper Light Drifter by Heart Machine, which I just saw a while ago on Kotaku. Nope, it’s already done and gotten its financing, exceeding its initial goal of $27,000 and earning, oh, $645,000(!!!), which nicely means this game is on its way for its mid-2014 release on pretty much every platform except iOS and Android.

Which is GREAT since the game looks gobsmackingly stunning. It’s got the retro look of SNES games in our wildest, glossiest memories coupled with more modern takes like Sword and Sworcery and elements of enchanting worlds like Zelda, Mana, Final Fantasy and even sprinklings of Miyazaki and Moebius. Suffice to say the trailer above has made me want to break out my PayPal password and throw some cash at this beauty.

Anyway, that’s no longer necessary- let’s all just wait for it to come sometime next year. I’ll probably be getting this on PC and on my Vita. To keep us reminded, I’ll post the trailer here on the blog. Check it out and see if it doesn’t inspire you to dream yourself. Wowness.

You can find out more about the game on its Kickstarter Page.

Dead or Alive 5 Required Watching!

EmperorCow tells you How!

The past couple of months, thanks to a superior portable version in DOA5 Plus, I’ve warmed up a lot to Dead or Alive 5. It’s certainly one of the more challenging beat ‘em ups thanks to the evil A.I. in single player (once you ratchet up the difficulty), but this video by EmperorCow should help a lot. It’s always been a problem for me whenever I get knocked down, the CPU always seems to know how to get me every single freakin’ time. This may help- or not. Well, it can’t hurt to know the proper ways to recover. There are more vids (since this particular one is part 5) which should go a long way to making any DOA5 newbie more capable and competent in no time. Check it out!

Dead or Alive 5 Plus ‘Breast’ Features On Display…

Team Ninja shows off their portable port on Japanese TV.

The PS Vita port of Tecmo-KOEI’s Dead or Alive 5 is almost upon the fighting game world, starting tomorrow March 19. Dead or Alive 5 Plus will bring a few new features unique to the touchscreen-enabled portable, such as Touch Fight, where you can literally poke and swipe the CPU opponent into defeat, a more detailed training mode and some new costumes. The game will support Cross Play with the PS3 version, so you can play with outfits already unlocked on your console on the PSV.

Team Ninja’s head, Yosuke Hayashi, showed off the game on a Japanese TV show, and notably the hosts (well, the male host in particular) were quite enamored with the breast bounce feature (which is oddly absent apparently from the NA version). The vid also shows off some of the bonus outfits- the Cheerleader suits which will be a preorder bonus for some shops (such as Gamestop) and the ‘Paradise Bikinis’ that are part of the Japanese Collector’s Edition release. No word on when these bonuses will be available generally for all, but I assume they will sometime after launch.
The game certainly looks cool and the graphics pretty close to the home version- but I still can’t see myself getting a Vita just for this, and particularly just after I bought a new desktop (sigh). But hey, we’ll see. Touch Fight kinda looks interesting. Heheh…

Yosuke Hayashi Reveals………… Dead or Alive 5 PLUS (PS Vita)

Team Ninja’s head gives us something for the future.

On this video exclusive from IGN’s Pro Fighting League channel on Youtube, Team Ninja producer Yosuke Hayashi drops a reveal- Dead or Alive 5 is headed for PS Vita via an (we assume) improved port called Dead or Alive 5 Plus. No details yet save that the game arrives in the ‘early stage of next year’, but supposedly this new version will have new add-ons and features that will be worth an upgrade.
To be honest, I haven’t played DOA5 for a good long while after finishing the Story Mode, and I haven’t been getting into the recent paid (and overpriced) DLC content. I severely doubt that I’ll be getting a Vita for this, but who knows… we’ll see what comes along. In any case, the main console versions of DOA5 will still be getting additional content and support from TN into next year, so DOA fans should be happy. More on this as we get it.

Streetfighter X Tekken Vita to come with 12 More Characters

…AND the Roster Rowdiness continues in Streetfighter X Tekken.

The PS3 and Xbox360 versions of the crossover fighter aren’t even out yet but they may already be ‘outdated’. The reason? Earlier today several game sites reported that the Playstation Vita version of the game, which will be releasing this Fall, will see the debut of 12 MORE characters over the console versions- this includes (SF) Elena, Cody, Guy, Sakura, Blanka, Dudley, (TK) Alisa Bosconovitch, Christie Monteiro, Lars Alexandersson, Bryan Fury, Lei Wulong and Jack.

As for the consoles, no word yet on when they’ll get these additional characters- though it’s probably safe to assume they’ll eventually come as post-launch DLC.

Not much hope of seeing these new challengers anytime soon- apparently Capcom is using their release as part of Streetfighter’s 25th Anniversary celebration, a way of keeping SFxTekken fresh several months down the road and, of course, a way to sell more PS Vitas. Obviously though, players are understandably reacting in various ways… from being outraged at the prospect of having to put up with Paid DLCs to irritation that once again, their particular favorite fighter did not make the roster.
Capcom has mentioned that the initial disc of SFxTekken will be the only disc release needed by gamers- any additional content will be an upgrade content download similar to how it was done in SSFIV Arcade Edition (although that was also released on disc). No other details- I guess we’ll have to wait and see how this shapes up. So I guess I’ll be having SFxTekken as my 2nd fighter (after MK) on Vita eventually…

In any case, the basic SFxTekken is out in a couple of weeks on March 8. Still a lot of things that can happen in the next 14 or so days. Stay tuned.

More than an hour of Streetfighter X Tekken Gameplay

WNF Singles Exhibition shows off the upcoming fighter!

Capcom’s mega-crossover Streetfighter X Tekken is right on the horizon. It’s gone gold and lots of characters have been introduced (albeit there may still be more revealed well into and after release), so now it’s all just a matter of time now before you get your World Warrior X Iron Fist Fighter dating game. Still, if you’re hankering to see more of this game then check up on the video above. Brought to us by Level Up Live, this solo exhibition tourney includes high-profile players like Justin Wong and Mike Ross, with commentary from UltraDavid and Capcom’s own Seth Killian (who provides a lot of info and insight into the game along the way). The gameplay is mostly SF characters, with Juri and Rufus looking pretty potent individually and as a team.

My excitement for this game is building day by day. I am liking the gameplay, which is fast and frenetic but not over-the-top crazy as a Marvel vs Capcom title. Looking at the Character Select screen I am pretty sure it’s got room for quite a few more entrants, who will hopefully just be Unlockables in the game and not DLC holdouts. The game is out in Early March, but for now, bask in the vid and start formulating your teams and strats.

Streetfighter X Tekken Prologues, Part Deux!

Posted in Fan Service, Fighting Games, Game Advertising, Game-related Events, Gaming, Playstation Vita, PS3, PSP Vita, Streetfighter X Tekken, Xbox360 on February 15th, 2012 by thelonegamer

Last week the Prologues and Intros of most of Streetfighter X Tekken’s available and official character teams were shown off in one long collection of crazy storylines and alliances. Well, about a week after here we have a few more. Two more teams- that of Jin Kazama with Ling Xiaoyu, and M. Bison with Juri Han. Tekken’s monstrous Ogre and SF’s murderous Master of Fist, Akuma, get their own individual intros, with nary a partner at their side. Given that the cinematic trailer for the two show them at odds, it seems unlikely they’ll be teaming up… does this mean each will be an individual sub-boss fighters will face on the way to Pandora? Then WHO or WHAT will be the true Final Boss? TRUE AKUMA?! Or will it be… Dan? Nah.

Have to say, I’m pretty curious as to how these storylines will play out. If history repeats itself, Bison had better watch out lest he find Juri’s foot in his face at the end of it all. I definitely am finding myself excited for this upcoming fighter. March can’t come soon enough.

Streetfighter X Tekken: Trailer Attack! TRAILER ATTACK!

The English Version of SFxT’s ‘Story’ Trailer, narrated by the ever-clueless Dan!

WHOA! For whatever reason, today suddenly found the Internet alive with several new vids for next month’s big beat ‘em up, Streetfighter X Tekken! The Crossover Combat’s gonna get even wilder as new fighters are revealed and the oddball storyline unfurled. The first trailer (above) is a Story Trailer, narrated by the supposedly ‘deceased’ Dan Hibiki and laying out the chaotic conflict caused by the coming of Pandora and the clash of the Mishima Zaibatsu, Shadaloo and the fighters around them. Mostly just told with character art and voiceover.

Jin and Ogre get their own trailer.

Next up are a couple of gameplay trailers introducing the most recent reveals. The Tekken side spot above shows off Tekken’s Prince of Emo, Jin Kazama (alongside kinda-sorta-not-but-you-know-she-is girlfriend, Ling Xiaoyu), and his longtime nemesis, Ogre. Of course, this is the green-skinned, Incan ‘God of Fighting’ first-stage version, not the snake-armed True Ogre from TTT2. Apparently the Toshin was awakened by Pandora… Will he transform into his Omega stage when defeated? Probably not.

Villainy abounds in this Capcom Character Trailer.

The Streetfighter side gameplay trailer has two mega-villains featured: Shadaloo’s Imperious M. Bison (alongside kinda-sorta-nah-not-really ally, S.I.N. Assassin Juri Han) and the newly-revealed Grandmaster of the Dark Hadou, Akuma himself (I’ve always preferred Gouki though). His new Ultra looks freakin’ awesome.
And last but not least, the newest CG Cinematic Trailer (Episode 6 at last count) rounds off the day’s SFxTekken spots.

Fast Tube by Casper

Akuma and Ogre face off.

Have to say, this latest episode is the shortest cinematic spot, and is kinda disappointing- just mostly lots of yelling and more fluids flying around, and less of the character action or humor we’ve seen in the previous episodes. Hoping there’s at least one more cool cinematic trailer left before release- or that the game features animated cutscenes as awesome endings.

But that’s NOT all! Today also brought with it the release date for Streetfighter X Tekken’s PC Version! It’s May 11, peeps!!! Before I wouldn’t care about this, but since I own a PC and am currently enjoying the awesomeness of SSFIVAE with custom mods- I can’t wait to see what the masters of modding can do with SFxTekken. Find the original article plus some new SFxT screens over at Capcom Unity.
So, are you all hyped? I’m excited for this game indeed- wanna see whoever’s left to be revealed, wanna get to playing this as soon as I get my hands on it. It’s just three weeks away. Just a matter of time now. More as we get it then!

Crossover Fighters Unite and Fight!

Wondering about why various pairs of World Warriors and Iron Fist Fighters are joining up and heading for the South Pole in next month’s Streetfighter X Tekken? Well, wonder no more! The pretty lengthy vid above shows off the backstories and intro animations of games many ‘set’ tag teams, from the Flagship Duos of Ryu and Ken to Kazuya and Nina to oddball teamups like Ibuki and Rolento and Steve and Hwoarang. Well, actually not ALL the teams- excluded from this vid are the entries for the recently-confirmed or hinted-at fighters such as Jin, Xiaoyu, Bison, Juri, Ogre, Akuma and others. Well, let’s save some stuff to be discovered when the game’s actually out, shall we? For now though, if you’re not averse to some spoilers and have about twenty minutes to burn… watch away!

Mortal Kombat on Playstation Vita!

Blood and guts of the console version all accounted for, and more!

Okay, here’s a pretty awesome bit. Mortal Kombat is coming to Sony’s new portable, and it’s looking freakin’ impressive. Not only will MK Vita get everything that was available in the console versions, but also tons of added content:

• 16 New Alternate Costumes
• All Additional DLC Characters Available
• Playable Shao Kahn
• New Challenge Tower Levels
• Gameplay utilizing the PS Vita’s Touchscreen

The Gamespot preview above shows off nicely why this game is going to be something to watch out for this Spring. Now THIS is why Netherrealms is reaping rewards- they’re pushing and going the extra mile, doing what they worked and adding even more stuff, more of what they know fans will enjoy. Definitely this will be one of my Must Buys on the Vita once I get my hands on it. Bloody exciting!

So now I’m wondering, what is the BIG bonus at the very end this time? Hmmm…
