Yet another game I’m dying to play.

Dark Souls III. I have no idea what the story is this time, but it looks amazing. With elements and flavor no doubt gleaned from the previous From Soft epic, Bloodborne, this may be a more fast-paced Dark Souls than veterans and fans have seen before- and perhaps the most accesible. Honestly, I have played a LOT of the original Dark Souls, although I never finished it (I tapred off after acquiring the Lordvessel), and haven’t played Dark Sous II. I did play tons of Bloodborne, reaching up to just before the final boss fight. In any case, I am really stoked for DSIII. I’ve always loved this dark, depressing yet ever-hopeful world, and this new game looks to be the most epic yet. This April, we’re all going to be fools for this game.

Dark Souls III @ Gamescom: Looking Bloody GOOD!

16 minutes of DSIII gameplay.

From Software has done amazing with their flagship fantasy-survival Souls franchise. Demons’ Souls introduced the gameplay and the style. Dark Souls refined it and created a world that players fell in love with, alongside gameplay they totally dug even as it killed them over and over and over.

Dark Souls 2 was a bit of a mess, but I think Bloodborne remedied that. Bloodborne freakin’ nailed it, updating the once slow but deliberate gameplay into a faster, more fun system of dodges, siderolls and counters, with some incredibly satisfying battles that seemed insurmountable but were always doable. Heck, I got to the end, even though my Dark Souls skills are hardly up to snuff.

And now- Dark Souls III. The game looks like Dark Souls and Bloodborne’s unholy progeny. The look and setting is Dark Souls. The scope, majesty and horror feel have a Bloodborne vibe, as well as the fast fighting action. This early, the game already looks fantastic. Enemies look gruesome, creepy, scary or both. The feeling of bleak hopelessness that lies before the relentless immortality of your hero is more pronounced than ever.

What stories and lore lie ahead, with this sure-to-be-a-classic prowling ahead in early 2016? I cannot freakin’ wait.

An encounter with what is surely just one of MANY bosses in the game…
