Yesterday, the first (the SDCC video was a teaser) full trailer for DC Comics’ Suicide Squad hit, and it certainly has become a HIT. Not since the amazing trailer for Sylvester Stallone’s Cliffhanger have I seen a trailer so perfect.
This early, on the strength of this magnificently-edited spot, people are already speculating this flick to be the blockbuster comic book flick of the year. Set to the gloriously upbeat rock classic Bohemian Rhapsody, the trailer features a wealth of screentime for more members of the titular Squad (whereas the SDCC teaser focused more on Margot Robbie’s Harley Quinn, Will Smith’s Deadshot and Jared Leto’s Joker), showing characters Captain Boomerang, Killer Croc, The Enchantress, El Diablo, Katana, Slipknot and Rick Flag.
The spot doesn’t give away too much (unlike the now-infamous Superman V Batman X Wonder Woman spot), but gives us just enough action and teasingly mysterious bits to have us all gagging with giddiness. It’s still quite far away (August 2016) but hell, I think I can just keep watching this trailer forever. I just hope that the final movie is just as fun as this spot lets on. But hey, even if it isn’t… it’s already a riot.
